Hygiene and learning atmosphere in the dojo
A clean dojo is the foundation of healthy training. That’s why the mat is cleaned several times a day, there’s a disinfection station at the entrance, and everyone wears flip-flops off the mat. We expect our members to bring freshly washed training clothes, keep up good personal hygiene and have short fingernails and toenails.
The atmosphere matters just as much to us: everyone supports each other, shows respect and trains together, regardless of age, gender or background. That’s why beginners feel at home here from day one.

Jiu Jitsu Vienna:
FAQ about the academy
Can I start Jiu Jitsu with no experience?
Yes, anytime. To get started with Jiu Jitsu in Vienna, we offer the 6-Week Beginner Course without the gi and the ongoing Fundamentals class in the gi. Both are for beginners only, so nobody there has a head start.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dangerous?
BJJ is a contact sport without punches or kicks, with the focus on ground fighting. As soon as someone taps out, their partner lets go immediately. That’s why the risk of injury is much lower than in many other martial arts.
Are there belt tests in BJJ?
No. Your coach watches you throughout the year and decides when you’re ready, both technically and in character. Promotions take place several times a year as part of seminars.
When can I start competing?
As soon as you train regularly in the Competition Class. ZR TEAM VIENNA competes in Austria and abroad in all age divisions (Junior, Adult, Master) and at every belt level, and we prepare you specifically for it.
I’m nervous about my first visit. Is that normal?
Totally. Every BJJ journey started with a first visit. Just drop by with no strings attached, your first class is free, and everyone in the room still remembers what their first day felt like.
How do I get to the academy?
The academy is at Gumpendorfer Straße 56, 1060 Vienna, a few minutes’ walk from the U3 station Neubaugasse. Bus lines 57A and 13A also stop nearby, and parking is available in the short-term parking zone.
