No-Gi Grappling in Vienna:
Submission Grappling Without a Gi
With us, you can train No-Gi grappling in Vienna almost every day: rashguard and shorts instead of a kimono, takedowns, positional control and submissions without grabbing fabric. Faster and more dynamic than BJJ in the gi, with dedicated classes for beginners and for all levels.
What you learn in No-Gi grappling in Vienna
Grappling without a gi means no grips on sleeves or collar – instead, you control the body, neck and hips. Our classes build on each other, so there’s always a class that fits you.
- 01
Stand-up and takedowns
Wrestling grips, body locks, single and double legs: taking your partner down safely.
- 02
Guard without a gi
Butterfly, half guard and open guard: control with frames, hooks and body grips.
- 03
Passing and pinning
Passing the guard against slippery skin, holding side control and mount without your partner escaping.
- 04
Back control
Setting hooks, building the rear naked choke and keeping the back.
- 05
Leg locks
Heel hook, ankle lock and kneebar: learning leg locks safely, with a dedicated leg lock class on Wednesday.
- 06
Sparring
Positional sparring and free rolling, as dynamic as no-gi gets. Tapping out ends every situation.

What do I need for no-gi?
- Rashguard or tight-fitting shirt
- Shorts or spats without pockets, zippers or metal
- Flip-flops for hygiene reasons
- Towel
- Bottle of water
Regular sportswear is fine for the trial class. You can get a starter pack with rashguard and shorts at the academy.
No-gi or BJJ in the gi: what’s the difference?
The principles are the same: leverage, timing, technique over strength. But without the gi there are no grips on fabric, so the pace is higher, there’s less friction, and wrestling, body mechanics and momentum play a bigger role. Lots of people train both, because gi and no-gi make each other better.
