What you learn in teen BJJ in Vienna

Jiu Jitsu is like chess with your body: technique, timing and brains beat strength. That’s why you can start without any experience and get better week after week.

  1. 01

    Self-defense

Escaping grabs and holds, controlling distance, staying safe on the ground and getting back up.

  2. 02

    Basic positions

Guard, mount, side control and back control: Where are you, and what’s your goal there?

  3. 03

    Takedowns and standing

Falling safely, breaking balance and your first throws from wrestling and judo.

  4. 04

    Escapes and sweeps

Getting out of bad positions and turning the tables, step by step.

  5. 05

    First submissions

Armbar, kimura and chokes, slow and controlled, with tapping out as a clear rule.

  6. 06

    Sparring with rules

Testing what you’ve learned against people your age, with a coach at the edge of the mat and fair partners.

  • Teens who want to learn a real martial art without punches or kicks
  • Young people who want to feel safer and more confident
  • Athletic newcomers from judo, wrestling, soccer or gymnastics

  • Gi (kimono) for Tuesday and Saturday – we’ll lend you one for the trial class
  • Rashguard or T-shirt and shorts for no-gi training on Friday

Short fingernails, no jewelry. You can get your own gi at the academy.

Why Jiu Jitsu for teens?

BJJ is more than a sport. You learn to defend yourself in tough situations without hurting anyone. You quickly see what you’re capable of, and that makes you more confident. Plus, you train your whole body: strength, endurance, mobility and coordination.

School, exams, friends, social media: sometimes it’s all too much. Grappling lets you clear your head and burn off energy, in a controlled and safe way. On top of that come discipline and respect for your training partners and coaches, values that stay with you off the mat, too.

Info for parents

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has no punches or kicks, so the risk of injury is low. Techniques are practiced slowly, tapping out ends every situation immediately, and the coaches match partners by size and experience.

You can watch the class from the lounge. The contract runs quarterly and automatically renews for another quarter unless it’s canceled in writing six weeks before it ends. We’re happy to answer questions about the group or getting started by phone or email.
