BJJ schedule Vienna:
FAQ

What do I need for my first class?

For Gi classes you need a gi, which we’ll lend you for your free trial class. For No-Gi and Wrestling, a rash guard and shorts. Also bring a towel, a water bottle and flip-flops, since footwear is required off the mat.

What does a BJJ class look like?

A thorough warm-up, then two or three techniques on the current topic. After that, specific sparring from the position you drilled, followed by free sparring. We finish with stretching and time to chat with your training partners.

Can I start with no experience?

Yes, anytime. The Fundamentals classes are for white belts, and beginners join all the time. You don’t need any experience or a special fitness level.

Are there belt tests?

No. The coaches watch you over the year and decide when you’re ready for the next belt, both technically and in character. Promotions take place several times a year as part of seminars.

Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dangerous?

BJJ is a close-contact sport without punches or kicks, with the focus on the ground. That keeps the risk of injury low. The goal is to make your partner submit with a joint lock or choke, and as soon as someone taps out, you let go immediately.

When can I start competing?

ZR TEAM VIENNA competes at tournaments in Austria and abroad in all age and belt divisions. If you train regularly in the Friday Competition Class, you’ll get targeted preparation for competition.

How is hygiene handled at the academy?

The mats are cleaned several times a day, and there’s disinfectant at the entrance. Training clothes are freshly washed for every session, and fingernails and toenails are kept short. Off the mat, everyone wears flip-flops.

I’m nervous about my first visit. Is that normal?

Totally normal, and no need to be. ZR TEAM VIENNA is a big, multicultural training family, and every BJJ journey started with a first visit. Just come by with no commitment, your first class is free.
