What you learn in wrestling in Vienna

Wrestling is the third pillar alongside BJJ and no-gi. Whoever controls the stand-up decides where the fight happens. That’s why we train takedowns with a grappling focus: always with an eye on what comes next on the ground.

  1. 01

    Stance and movement

Stance, level change, sprawl and pummeling: the foundation no takedown works without.

  2. 02

    Hand fighting

Collar tie, underhook, wrist control: winning grips, breaking grips, knocking your opponent off balance.

  3. 03

    Single and double leg

The most important leg attacks, executed cleanly and finished all the way to control on the ground.

  4. 04

    Upper body takedowns

Body lock, duck under, arm drag and throws from the clinch.

  5. 05

    Takedown defense

Sprawl, whizzer, front headlock: staying on your feet when the other person shoots.

  6. 06

    Positional and live sparring

Stand-up against resistance, transitioning into grappling and submissions.

FAQ:
wrestling in Vienna

Do I need any experience?

Some. The wrestling class in Vienna is for all levels, but white belts should already know breakfalls and the basics from BJJ or no-gi. Complete beginners start in the beginner course.

Is this Olympic wrestling?

No. We train wrestling as a complement to grappling: takedowns, hand fighting and control on the feet, always with the transition to the ground and without the competition rules of wrestling.

When is the wrestling class?

Every Monday from 19:15 to 20:45. All times are in the schedule.

Is wrestling prone to injuries?

Takedowns are practiced step by step with proper breakfall technique. Sparring only starts once the technique is solid, and tapping out ends every situation immediately.

What should I wear?

A rashguard or tight shirt and shorts without pockets or zippers. We train barefoot, so you don’t need wrestling shoes.
